(Just for the record I work on a Windows 7 machine and have the newest version installed - 2.4.2. In any case, next time I experience this I will also try to work in text view instead. The target file is still generated correctly even though you don't copy the source.īut obviously, it would be much better if the performance could be improved so it would be quicker to navigate between segments. If I have a file with many segments that don't need translation, I normally use the mouse to select the next relevant segment and leave the others empty. I am not sure what the pattern is, though, because the problem seems to be worse with certain files. I don't work in Wordfast Pro that often but I have also been annoyed by how slow it can be when you use the shortcuts to move between segments. I was just wondering if anyone else out there is also frustrated with Wordfast Pro's speed, I mean the speed at which it moves from one segment to another or when you try to join segments, or worse yet when you have a translation with lots of segments with just numbers in them, waiting for the program to move from one segment to another is eternal. The TM is from Wordfast Pro and has not been used with any other programs ▲ Collapse The problem though isn't in the amount of segments it is in the amount of segments with numbers, the more segments with numbers the slower it goes. The only other program I usually have working while I use Wordfast is FirefoxĪs mentioned in my post I give Wordfast 1024MB I can't give it 1470MB because when I do I get a java error and Wordfast won't open, I have to go to wordfast.ini and change the setting back to 1024 to be able to run the program. I will try this see what happens as most of the time I do work in table view.Ģ- Quit all the programs in the background while you are using Wordfast Pro. I couldn't find anything better than WF pro 3 yet. Overall it feels very sluggish, ineffective and counter-intuitive. Also it frequently loses window focus for no reason while editing. In-program navigation is much slower, translation process in editor is much slower. Thanks for your suggestions Yasmin as regards each one: Opening program itself takes much longer than WF Pro 3. Press Ctrl+A to Select All the flagged entries. Click the toolbar button "Set filter for flagged entries". Entries > Flag Entries > "Duplicate source and target" and "Source is the same as target". Entries > Remove Codes > Remove both TMX tags and their content > OKĪlso, try to delete duplicates and copy-sourced segments to make the TM smaller: To clean the TMX tags, you can use Olifant: (very important)ģ- Try to allocate more RAM for Wordfast Pro application itself.Ĥ- Ask your project manager to split the TXML files into smaller ones.ĥ- When you use TM Lookup you can search for exact phrases (even in quotes) rather than for very regular words.Ħ- If the TM is from another program, it may help to open it in Olifant (for Windows) to clean it first. (Just try it!)Ģ- Quit all the programs in the background while you are using Wordfast Pro. What is your operating system - this is a very important question in relation to the Memory Preferences.ġ- Work in the Text View as it is usually faster.
